Palace To Make £20 Million Available For January Transfer Window

Reports in The Express claim that Alan Pardew will be given an overall transfer budget of £20 million for the January transfer window, allowing the current Newcastle boss to strengthen the side significantly in some key areas.

With long-term transfer target Bafetimbi Gomis still thought to be open to a move with the promise of regular Premier League starts, there are also rumours of moves for the likes of Neil Taylor, Jonjo Shelvey and Tom Huddlestone as the New Year looms large.

Although goals have proven to be a huge concern in recent weeks, a new left-back remains one of the club’s major priorities, with a new arrival hopefully allowing Joel Ward to move back into his favoured position on the right of defence and offering our back four a feeling of genuine balance once again.

With Mile Jedinak and Yannick Bolasie also set to be missing from the team for the whole of January, there is a chance that we may also look to bring in a new winger or central midfielder, but at the time of writing, there have been no solid leads on who that may be.

Should we be able to find a man capable of netting us 10 to 12 goals between now and the end of the season, alongside an experienced and talented left-back, you would like to think that the group would be more than capable of securing Premier League survival for a second consecutive season, having managed a miraculous 11th placed finish last term.

For now though, we’ll concentrate on the announcement of our next manager, rather than the players he may or may not bring in. There’s no point in counting our chickens before they’ve hatched.

US Billionaire’s Palace Takeover Remains On Track For 2015

The takeover of Crystal Palace by American billionaire Josh Harris is reportedly still in place, despite the withdrawal of one of the major investors, according to The Mirror.

Fellow money man David Blitzer, who co-owns the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia 76ers with Harris is said to have cooled his interest in the purchase of the football club, with Harris now pursuing a deal with a smaller group of investors for a 70% share.

Whilst the current four man consortium own 25% of the club each, it is thought that Martin Long and Jeremy Hoskings will sell their shares to Harris, whilst Stephen Browett with give up 20%, allowing the US businessman to have a controlling stake alongside Parish’s retained 25%.

Quite what this means for the financial future of the club remains unclear at this stage, but taking into account Harris’ wealth, not to mention his experience with other sporting ventures in the past, it’s safe to assume that the deal will put us on firmer financial footing than ever before.

It is thought that the formal takeover of the club may well be officially signed and sealed within the next month, whilst funds may already be trickling into the club’s coffers with the January transfer window looming large, not to mention the supposedly imminent arrival of a new manager too.
