VIDEO: Fraizer Campbell Scores A Brace As Palace Draw 2-2 With Vancouver

Crystal Palace rounded off their US tour with a 2-2 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps last night thanks to a brace from Fraizer Campbell.

Here are the highlights from last night’s game, where an explosive second half saw four goals scored in just 28 minutes.

Alan Pardew began the game with an untested 3-5-2 formation, using Martin Kelly, Damien Delaney and Scott Dann at the back in a bid to tweak our potential tactical approach ahead of the new season and in an evenly matched opening 45 minutes, we seemed to cope with it relatively well.

After seeing the Whitecaps take the lead with a close-range header in the 50th minute, the Palace fans who had stayed up to watch the game were fearing the worst, but it took just 12 minutes for the Eagles to regain parity after some excellent work from the ever-impressive Andros Townsend saw him find half-time substitute Fraizer Campbell in the penalty for a cooly taken equaliser.

It took just four more minutes for the magic of Townsend to pay dividends again, after some fantastic work from him saw the ball fed to Connor Wickham who squared a pass to Campbell, prompting the former Manchester United man to grab his second of the evening.

Unfortunately, the goalscoring wasn’t to end there and in the 78th minute, the Whitecaps Kendall Watson brought them back to 2-2 with a header the Palace keeper Julian Speroni could do nothing about.

The final whistle signalled the end of the Eagles’ US tour, which, after going unbeaten in three games with two clean sheets to boot will undoubtedly be looked upon as a genuine success for all concerned.

There is no doubt whatsoever that Andros Townsend has shone in red and blue on the other side of the Atlantic, which can only bode well for us in the season to come.

Enjoy.

Despite Spurs’ Interest, Bolasie Won’t Be Leaving Palace This Summer

Given the interest that was swirling around Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie at the end of last season, you could have been forgiven for thinking that he wouldn’t be at Selhurst Park for the start of the new campaign, but according to the Croydon Advertiser, there have been no bids for the 26-year-old whatsoever.

Following a stunning end to the previous campaign, which included an 11-minute hat-trick away at Sunderland, Alan Pardew warned any potential suitors off of a move for Bolasie by suggesting that it would take £40 million for the club to consider letting him go. Whilst it was of course an outlandish comment, it served its purpose, with clubs not wasting our time with low bids throughout the summer.

There had been talks of serious interest from Tottenham in the DR Congo international, but as the summer has progressed, Pochettino appears to have moved on to other targets, leaving Bolasie himself to ponder what he can do to further prove himself in the eyes of the wider footballing public.

Now back in pre-season training with the club at England’s St George’s Park complex, it seems as if he’ll be with until January at the very earliest, as we look to push our way further up the table in a bid to solidify our status as a top half Premier League side.

Having formed a dazzling partnership with Wilfried Zaha on the flanks at Selhurst Park, Bolasie is well aware that Alan Pardew has improved his game on a personal level since arriving at the turn of the year and would be well served by staying for another few months at the very least, in the hope of further progress on and off the field in SE25.

It’s easy to look at other clubs and see them as more upwardly mobile, but in truth, the success we’ve had over the last five years has seldom been matched by other outfits. Should we be able to keep hold of our best players for the foreseeable future, a tilt at a European place may not be too far away.
