Palace Midfield Man Out For The Rest Of The Season

Jonny Williams is facing another summer of injury rehabilitation after being told that he won’t be fit to play any football between now and the end of the current campaign.

The Palace academy graduate has had an awful time with injuries in recent years, and now, after two separate spells on loan with Ipswich Town, the midfielder will hope that a prolonged period within any great deal of physical exertion will set him up nicely for a trouble free campaign in 2015/16.

Still only 21, the diminutive midfielder has already made 68 appearances in red and blue, but thanks to the cutthroat nature of the Premier League and his slight stature, chances for him to impress have been few and far to come by for him since we won promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Many had assumed that a permanent move to Ipswich Town may have been on the cards this summer, when seeing how highly-rated he is by Mick McCarthy and the supporters at Portman Road, but persistent injuries have seemingly cast a doubt over whether the Tractor Boys would be willing to sign Jonny on a permanent basis between now and August.

Ideally, he will stay with the club throughout the summer before taking a full part in our pre-season preparations, allowing Alan Pardew to get a feel for exactly what he can offer the side, before dazzling all before him at the start of the new Premier League campaign, but as we all know, things seldom go to plan in the world of professional football.

With rumours persisting of our possible interest in a move for Ipswich defender Tyrone Mings, Williams could well be offered to them as part of the deal, but as of yet, that remains the stuff of pure speculation on our part.

Jonny Williams Ruled Out Of Wales Contention With Ankle Injury

Having started for Wales in their 0-0 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina last week, Jonathan Williams has now been ruled out of contention for his country’s next game against Cyprus with an ankle injury.

The diminutive central midfielder has become Chris Coleman’s seventh midfield absentee, after injuries to the likes of Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey took the team down to the “bare bones” in the words of their manager.

Currently on loan at Ipswich Town, Williams has a history of picking up injuries whilst away with his country, with this latest setback sure to have seriously frustrated him, given the fact that he had only just been given the chance to impress next to Joe Ledley in the centre of the park.

Admittedly, Williams’ committed style of play is fantastic to see from a fan’s perspective when things are going well, but thanks to his slight frame, he will always be at risk of picking up injuries, as has proved to be the case again this week.

Unfortunately for Jonny, it seems that whenever his form begins to properly gather momentum, he is forced to sit out a game or two with a niggle, preventing him from ever establishing himself to the extent that his ability should allow; a factor, no doubt, in his lack of progress at Selhurst Park since our promotion to the top flight.

Hopefully it doesn’t prove to be too serious and we see him back in an Ipswich shirt before long. To watch such a talented footballer being sabotaged by injury in the long-term would be a real shame for him and the game in general.
