Palace Are Already Planning Summer Transfers After Latest Win

Alan Pardew is excited by the prospect of what Crystal Palace can do in the transfer market over the summer, as he plans to lay foundations for long-term growth at Selhurst Park.

With our sixth away win in seven games under his guidance last weekend, we now sit in 11th place, 11 points clear of the bottom three with just eight games left, allowing the club to begin planning properly for the upcoming transfer window, with Pardew clearly enthused by the prospect.

“I think we now come into the same category as everybody below the likes of Everton, Tottenham and Liverpool. We are in that group now and the most important thing is to try to trade well.”

It is a bit like when you get promoted having gone through the play-offs.

“We are pretty secure in approaching clubs and players that we are a Premier League side and have the finance to do what we say we are going to do. So it does give us a slight advantage.”

With so many clubs below us still looking over their shoulders at the bottom three, the Eagles boss will be free to scour the market with a degree of freedom for the next few weeks, which as he so readily points out, gives us a significant advantage when the window does evenetuay open once again.

Although no one is exactly sure where the manager feels we need strengthening, we are likely to see the calibre of our transfer targets noticeably increase, partly as a consequence of our continued Premier League status, but also as a result of Josh Harris’ impending takeover, which should in theory, only serve to strengthen our financial footing in years to come.

With the likes of Loic Remy and Papiss Cisse having already been linked with summer moves to south London, there is a belief that the club are on the verge of stepping up to the figurative next level, both on and off the field, a sign of progress that the manager is seemingly more than happy to embrace.

For a club who have nearly been forced out of business twice in the last 20 years, the last three have been nothing short of incredible; not that Alan Pardew or his players have any intentions of slowing down just yet.

“McArthur Should Be Embarrassed” – Pardew Pulls No Punches

Alan Pardew has claimed that James McArthur should be embarrassed for his dive in Saturday’s win over Stoke City.

With the Palace manager talking to Chris Kamara and Ben Shepard on this morning’s Goals On Sunday, you may have perhaps expected him to shy away from the subject, but instead, he condemned McArthur’s actions, whilst admitting that the man himself will be rather sheepish about the incident.

He said:

He dived.

“He should be embarrassed. He’s a great professional and that’s unlike him. I was surprised but it shows what pressure does to players.

“I haven’t spoken to him about it but I don’t need to. He will see the replay and he will be embarrassed.

The man management of Alan Pardew, at least during his first three months in south London is perfectly encapsulated in his response to McArthur’s moment of stupidity; passionately distancing himself from it whilst simultaneously building up the man himself by declaring that he will be embarrassed by the incident, rather than refusing to accept culpability.

At every turn, Pardew has spoken with honestly and a degree of humour since returning to SE25, quickly building a culture of respect from fans and players alike, with positive results having come in quick succession as a result.

I doubt we’ll see McArthur going down easily again in the near future, Pardew isn’t wrong in claiming that he’s not that sort of player, but having heard him publicly denouncing the dive, it would take a brave man to do it again.
