Palace Midfield Man Out For The Rest Of The Season

Jonny Williams is facing another summer of injury rehabilitation after being told that he won’t be fit to play any football between now and the end of the current campaign.

The Palace academy graduate has had an awful time with injuries in recent years, and now, after two separate spells on loan with Ipswich Town, the midfielder will hope that a prolonged period within any great deal of physical exertion will set him up nicely for a trouble free campaign in 2015/16.

Still only 21, the diminutive midfielder has already made 68 appearances in red and blue, but thanks to the cutthroat nature of the Premier League and his slight stature, chances for him to impress have been few and far to come by for him since we won promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Many had assumed that a permanent move to Ipswich Town may have been on the cards this summer, when seeing how highly-rated he is by Mick McCarthy and the supporters at Portman Road, but persistent injuries have seemingly cast a doubt over whether the Tractor Boys would be willing to sign Jonny on a permanent basis between now and August.

Ideally, he will stay with the club throughout the summer before taking a full part in our pre-season preparations, allowing Alan Pardew to get a feel for exactly what he can offer the side, before dazzling all before him at the start of the new Premier League campaign, but as we all know, things seldom go to plan in the world of professional football.

With rumours persisting of our possible interest in a move for Ipswich defender Tyrone Mings, Williams could well be offered to them as part of the deal, but as of yet, that remains the stuff of pure speculation on our part.

Jonny Williams Back At Palace After Yet Another Injury Scare

Jonny Williams has returned from his loan spell at Ipswich Town after a recurrence of the groin injury which has kept him out in the past.

Managing just two substitute appearances for the Tractor Boys in what was his second loan with them, Williams was forced to come off early in an U21 fixture after sensing the injury, prompting Town’s head physio to examine him and decide that it would be best for the midfielder to return to SE25 for treatment.

The Welsh international has struggled hugely with injuries in his career to date, twice breaking his leg, alongside a variety of other short-term setbacks such as the one mentioned above, leading some to wonder if he’ll ever be fully free of fitness worries.

Hopefully, with a full pre-season under his belt with us, his body will recover well, allowing him to head into the 2015/16 campaign with a renewed sense of purpose, as he looks to prove to Alan Pardew that he has what it takes to mix it with the Premier League’s best.

No one would question that on a technical level, Williams is more than good enough to make his mark in the top flight, but with the game becoming more and more physically demanding with each passing year, there are inevitable worries over the likelihood of his body standing up to the strains that will be inevitably placed upon it from week to week.

For supporters, coaches and Williams himself, the last two years have been incredibly frustrating, with such talent being so sadly underused through no fault of the managers who have had the chance to see for themselves what he can do.

Hopefully the end of this season will act as a definitive end to Jonny’s injury troubles; he deserves a chance to dazzle those who are yet to realise the frigtening potential he has for more than two weeks at a time.
