VIDEO: What Can Palace Fans Expect From Connor Wickham?

Connor Wickham is expected at Palace’s training ground this morning, after a fee of around £8 million was agreed between the south Londoners and Sunderland for his services.

Despite being just 22, Wickham’s career to date has caused much of the Palace faithful to debate whether or not he’s worth the fee, with his undoubtedly huge potential having failed to ever transform into regular goals for the Black Cats.

Conversations you have with Sunderland fans over the Ipswich academy man can throw up a wide variety of opinions, with some suggesting his talent has been vastly overestimated for years, whilst others claim that with the right tactical system, he has every chance of being a roaring success in SE25.

Thanks to his sizeable frame and tender age, Wickham does have the enviable benefit of time on his side, with a switch to Selhurst Park almost certain to come in tandem with a financially lucrative long-term contract and the backing of his new manager Alan Pardew, whose willingness to use Glenn Murray last season highlights the obvious mutual benefits of a tie up with the £8 million man.

You get the impression that Connor is searching for a spark with which to ignite his career, having endured a number of false dawns to date. Perhaps he will light the blue touch paper in south London, perhaps not, but for Palace, after a summer long search for a new striker, it seems they’ve finally settled on their man.

Take a look at the videos below to get a taste of what we’re in for should he indeed make his move official over the next day or so.

VIDEO: What Can Palace Fan’s Expect From Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford?

With Patrick Bamford’s Palace arrival set to be announced over the next few hours, there has been a debate raging over whether or not the young striker has what it takes to perform consistently at Premier League level, given his lack of experience in the top flight.

Having previously enjoyed successful loan spells with MK Dons, Derby County and most recently Middlesbrough, there is no doubt that the 21-year-old has as eye for goal, but for many, there will be doubts over the Chelsea man’s credentials until he has shone in similar fashion when forced to confront top level defenders each week.

In fairness to Bamford, he has only been able to beat what has been put in front of him so far, much like a young boxer inching his way up the professional ranks one fight at at time, with the scepticism that surrounds the potential success of any young player causing many of them to falter at the final hurdle.

Having scored regularly wherever he has been, you will struggle to find a single Middlesbrough fan who has a bad word to say about him, with his goals and general link-up play proving to be a huge part of the Teessiders’ push towards last season’s play-off final.

Indeed, his own performance that day was scrutinised by the masses, with a below-par display causing many to declare that he wasn’t a “big game player”, forgetting the fact that he had barely trained for a month and had agreed to a series of injections just to enable him to make it through the game without breaking down.

Calm and composed on the ball, Bamford’s game instantly reminds me of a certain Dougie Freedman, floating across the penalty area with the assured confidence of a man who possesses an impressive knack for finding space at the most opportune of moments.

For some, the jury remains out on the young Chelsea man’s talents, but as the videos provided below demonstrate, he has as good a chance as anyone of making the step up when called upon.
