Which Of Palace’s 13 Out Of Contract Players Should Stay On?

Thanks to a piece on football site HITC, we have been reminded that there are 13 first-team professionals are set to see their contracts expire over the summer, with decisions to be made over who should stay and who should go.

Of the experienced players due to renegotiate terms, Damien Delaney, Julian Speroni and Brede Hangeland look to be the most likely to extend their time at Selhurst Park, with all three having played a key role in the current campaign, whilst plenty of others won’t be looked upon quite as favourably.

For Shola Ameobi, Owen Garvan, Jerome Thomas, Lewis Price, Peter Ramage and Stephen Dobbie, you would expect to see their time in SE25 come to a permanent end, with every one having struggled to make an impact since
Palace won promotion to the top flight.

Beyond that, we see the likes of Reise Allassani, Jerome Binnon-Williams, Ryan Inniss and Sullay Kaikai looking for assurances on their future, with the decision over whether or not they warrant fresh contracts likely to be decided depending on how Alan Pardew views the immediate future for the football club in relation to player recruitment.

All four have shown glimpses of their potential readiness for regular first-team football in south London whilst out on loan or as part of the Palace development squad, but translating that into consistency at the top level is a completely different challenge for so many youngsters.

It’s sure to be a busy summer for us, as always.

Palace Pair Set To Leave On Loan Before The Deadline

Owen Garvan and Kwesi Appiah are set to leave Crystal Palace on a short-term basis, before the imminent closure of the emergency loan window.

With neither having been selected as part of Alan Pardew’s 25 man Premier League squad, loan moves are the the only way that either man will get the chance to play first-team football before the season draws to a close, as they look to maintain match fitness ahead of what will likely prove to be a pivotal summer for both in different senses.

Whilst Appiah will be looking to impress the Palace boss in pre-season, having just put pen to paper on a new two-year contract, Garvan’s future looks to be away from Selhurst Park, having barely kicked a ball for the first-team in a little under two years.

Despite playing regularly in the Championship, the former Ipswich man has never been given a chance to prove himself in the top flight, leaving him restricted to sporadic outings in the development squad under the guidance of Gary Issott, with many assuming that the Irishman is simply biding his time until his current contract expires.

For Appiah, a prolific spell away from Palace could prove to be the final spark he needs to be given a chance in red and blue, after seeing his game come on in leaps and bounds over the last 12 months. Clearly, for the club to feel that he warrants a new contract, there is a degree of belief in him from the coaches’ perspective, with the 24-year-old now expected to continue his progression and force Alan Pardew into involving him in our pre-season fixtures and beyond that, the first-team set-up.

Good luck to both, wherever they go.
